I added a account, then gave it sudo and needed to edit /etc/hosts on both server to match the cloned IP addresses and to enable connections from web1 to db1 the firewall needed editing to also match the new IP addresses.

I also needed to enable password authentication for ssh, /etc/ssh/sshd_config was edited to change:

PasswordAuthentication yes
